Jolien Kruit

Jolien has worked as a lawyer at Van Traa since 2005. She mainly deals with disputes and questions related to water transport. She specialises in maritime and inland water transport law in a broad sense and related private international law issues. Jolien regularly acts as an arbitrator, is a guest lecturer at the Master Maritime and Transport Law of the Erasmus School of Law and at Leiden University, and regularly publishes on various transport law topics, including ship arrest, global limitation of liability, liability for cargo damage, the maritime court expert, general average and the sustainability of transport.
After completing her master studies in Leiden, she successfully completed the Master Maritime Law in Southampton (2005). In 2017, Jolien obtained her PhD from the Erasmus School of Law in Rotterdam with the thesis ‘General Average, Legal Basis and Applicable Law’. For this thesis, she received the prestigious Albert Lilar prize.

Jolien is a board member of the Dutch Association for Transport Law (NVV). She is also a member of the International Working Group on Maritime Decarbonisation of the Comité Maritime International, of STIG - Sustainable Transport Insurance Group of WISTA (Women's International Shipping & Trading Association).
