Our social responsibility

Van Traa is socially responsible. This is reflected in our commitment to minimizing our ecological footprint as much as possible—including through extensive digitization—and in our involvement with various social organizations.

We feel a responsibility to contribute to making society more sustainable and to achieving the most important climate goals: CO2 neutrality, no unnecessary waste production, energy reduction where possible through efficient energy use, and, more generally, reducing our footprint. We make green and sustainable choices as much as possible, including by purchasing eco-friendly and recyclable office supplies and promoting reuse, reducing plastic and paper consumption, minimizing energy use where possible, and utilizing sustainable transportation.

In addition, we are committed to the theme of Sports & Mental Health. We sponsor not only the Brain Foundation but also individual initiatives by our employees that contribute to their physical and mental health. Examples include the Mindful Walk.

Since spring 2023, we have been aligned with the UN Global Compact. The “UN Global Compact” is the world’s largest corporate sustainability program. By aligning your company with the program, you commit to fulfilling fundamental responsibilities in four areas: human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. The program contains 10 principles that a company must endorse: The Ten Principles, UN Global Compact NL.

In addition to our goal of contributing to a more sustainable, just, and inclusive society, we are also committed to other themes that are not only relevant to our legal practice but also have a broad societal impact.

Since 2024, we have been a sponsor of The Class, an initiative of the Hersenstichting. The Class is a project for young people with acquired brain injury (ABI) that supports them in their reintegration into the labor market. The goal of this coaching and reintegration program is to prepare these young people for work and guide them toward a suitable, sustainable job. This is necessary because many young adults with brain injuries are stuck at home or working in jobs below their capabilities. Through our sponsorship, we aim to contribute to the goals of the Hersenstichting and the work of this organization. After all, our brains are our most important asset!

Many of our people are also personally involved with social organizations such as the Rotterdam Sailing Ship Foundation, the Kunsthal, the PKN, and Veilig Verkeer Nederland.

Furthermore, Van Traa contributes to Stichting Jarige Job.

Research by the Dutch Social Planning Agency (Sociaal Cultureel Planbureau (SCP) shows that ten thousands of children in The Netherlands are socially excluded because they grow up in poverty. They cannot join school trips and cannot become a member of a sports club. Often, they cannot even afford to celebrate their birthday and out of the shame, they call in sick.

Jarige Job aims to end this birthday suffering and treats children from the poorest families in our society to a fun day by providing a Birthday Box which includes everything needed for a party, including treats for school.

Van Traa supports Stichting Jarige Job in ways we can, by offering legal advice, financial support and having our people help pack the Birthday Boxes.
